Good morning. If your feel like the money in defense tech is moving faster than before, you’re not wrong: venture funding into defense, national security, and law enforcement startups has already topped $14.6B in the first five months of 2026 — blowing past the entire full-year record of $9.6B set in 2025. Three takeaways from the last week of hiring and headlines:
1. The capital is concentrating, and so are the jobs. 2026 is the year of “fewer, bigger” rounds — Anduril’s $5B Series H (a $30.5B valuation), Shield AI’s $2B Series G, and Saronic’s $1.75B Series D have soaked up an outsized share of the sector’s dollars. That gravity shows up directly in our board this week: Anduril, Shield AI, and the space primes are posting across every job family at once, from talent acquisition to weapons program management.
2. Manufacturing scale is the new battleground. Analysts are calling production throughput the defining competition of 2026, and the open roles back that up. The most senior listings this week skew heavily toward manufacturing engineering, operations leadership, and process — think VP of Operations, Director of Manufacturing, and a wave of senior manufacturing engineers. Defense hardware shops now post ~50% more unique roles per company than software startups, because shipping a physical product needs mechanical, firmware, and forward-deployed talent simultaneously.
3. Autonomy and space keep pulling demand. With the talk of a new Robotic and Autonomous Systems command being stood up, the engineering demand is clustering around autonomy, GNC, and orbital infrastructure. You’ll see that reflected below in the software and hardware sections.
