Farewell, 2025. Last DTJ of the year!

Defense enthusiasts,

You know we keep it pretty lean in the lede here at DTJ, you can read defense analysis elsewhere (shout out to Building our Future and Defense Tech & Acquisition News, to name a few).

But as we move into the new year, a few closing thoughts:

• You’re an investor of your own time. You should diligence the companies you work at like you’re deploying your capital (you are).

• It’s true: our adversaries are becoming bolder than any point in the last 30 years. The threats we face are real. And…

• The US military is not going to buy every technology the private sector develops. We don’t need and can’t afford to sustain wartime production levels indefinitely - but we absolutely need greater capacity than we have now.

• The “Rest of World” is becoming a much more attractive defense market. Expect a lot of growth in Europe and MENA in the year ahead.

• As competitiveness increases, more procurements will become zero-sum. Partnerships aren’t going away, but if / as next gen companies are indeed selected by Program Acquisition Executives, some wins will start to affect bottom lines. And, expect to see more Big-5 execs leaving to work at new big winners in the year ahead.

That said, chill out defense doomers! We are winning the fight for more talent, more companies, and more focus on national security. The explosion of interest is exciting. Just like every other industry, some will execute and win - others won’t and will fail. It’s easy to be the critic. Want to make a difference?
